Blister and Thermoform Packaging – the Unseen Problem

The permeability of blister packs preserves the quality and boosts shelf life of literally billions of drug doses and thermoformed packaging does the same thing for foods and confectionary. However, all too frequently not only are materials with the wrong permeability are used but thermoforming and pressing them can make the matter much worse as it can easily change permeability by up to 400%.  

This can slash a product's shelf life, reduce the potency of drugs, increase contamination and leads to millions of pounds of waste. Versaperm's latest vapour permeability meter range is the answer.  It allows you to check, measure, quality control and develop new solutions – and it can do it in as little as 30 minutes a time for some materials.  Traditional gravimetric testing takes weeks or months to achieve the same results.

The equipment allows companies to work flat material samples and finished, formed and sealed packs.  This allows both packaging materials and the manufacturing process to be optimised and quality controlled for any product.

The Versaperm's permeability meter is versatile, fast, reliable, gives highly reproducible results and can be used to test virtually any type of packaging with, at most, minimal training.  It allows the temperature and humidity of the sample to be accurately controlled and gives results that are accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) and sometimes even PPB ranges. 

Vapour can seep through all forms of packaging – from blister packs and thermoformed through to sachets, capsules, containers and conventional card-based packs.
